The next Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 CPU from Qualcomm is scheduled to debut in October 2025 and is anticipated to power a number of high-end smartphones. However, you will not have to wait until 2025 to see this chip in a phone.
Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu has claimed that the Xiaomi 15 will be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphone. The leaker reiterated that the phone will have a small flat screen, adding that it’ll be a “little rounder” than before.
But when will the phone be released?
No launch date was specified by Smart Pikachu. In a since-edited post, fellow leaker Digital Chat Station asserted that the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phones will, in fact, be on sale at the end of October. It would not be shocking if the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 phones were released in October. After all, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro were the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to be released in October 2023.
But our best bet is that the initial Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices will only be available in China, with international releases to come later in the New Year. In fact, this was the situation with the Xiaomi 14, which was eventually released worldwide in February 2024. We have also heard before that the Xiaomi 15 series was the first phone family to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor.
In April, leaker Yogesh Brar stated that Xiaomi would release the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro with “exclusive first launch rights” for the new processor. Brar went on to say that the next OEMs to provide the new silicon would be OnePlus and Iqoo.
